Can I Call A Loved One In Rehab?

Understanding how outside communication is handled while your loved one attends rehabilitation may be difficult.

You can’t quickly call a loved one in treatment because they have no unsupervised phone access. Many facilities restrict outside communication, especially in the early days of treatment.

However, Bedrock allows patients to call loved ones while supervised using their cellphone, or you can arrange calls through their treatment team.

Arranging Calls With Your Loved One

If you would like to arrange scheduled calls with your loved one, you can contact their therapist to set a time when they are available.

While they have a structured treatment schedule, they do have some free time to take calls.

Other Ways To Communicate With Your Loved One

There are other ways to communicate with your loved one while they are attending treatment.

You can communicate with your loved one by mailing letters and participating in treatment through family therapy sessions.

Letters

Writing letters can help you express your emotions to your loved one and support them while they attend treatment.

Letters can give you time to sort out what you want to say, which will help you say it positively.

Ensure that the letters you write to your loved one are loving and supportive, and focus on the positives about them attending treatment.

Family Therapy Sessions

Bedrock involves the client’s family in family therapy sessions, including psychoeducation.

In family psychoeducation, we teach family members about post-acute withdrawal syndrome (PAWS), the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) levels of care, and family support such as Al-anon.

We may also hold telehealth calls or in-person therapy sessions with family members where they can focus on discussing emotions and repairing relationships.
