Frequently Asked Questions About Bedrock Recovery Center

Have A Question About Bedrock?

You may be able to find the answer below, in our FAQs. To learn more, please call to speak with a member of our care team today.

Although you are allowed to bring your phone with you to Bedrock, you will need to leave it with our support staff after arriving, who will keep it locked safe for you. Any use of your cell phone during your stay will need to be arranged beforehand and supervised. Cell phone use is limited at BRC to help protect clients’ privacy and provide a distraction-free environment.

Yes, we encourage supportive family members or a significant other to visit you and be involved in your treatment in other ways, such as via psychoeducation and other therapy options. Visits take place on the weekends and are limited to loved ones over the age of 18.

You and your care team together will determine the best ways to stay in touch with supportive family members during your treatment. This may include via family therapy sessions, supervised phone calls, or in-person visits on weekends. Therapy sessions can also be done remotely for family members who can’t attend in person.

Yes, there are spaces outside designated for smoking cigarettes, where you will have the opportunity to smoke during regularly scheduled breaks throughout the day. Vapes and related products are prohibited for safety reasons. All cigarettes you plan on smoking must be brought with you when you arrive, in sealed, unopened packs.

You should bring any prescription medications you are currently taking along with you, unopened and in their original packaging. Your care team will hold on to them for you and give them to you at the right time.

If you are taking psychiatric medication, your care team will monitor you closely and may adjust your medication if it isn’t helping you achieve the desired outcomes.

We offer a wide range of wellness, recreation, and prosocial activities for you to enjoy through access to our expansive outdoor patio, basketball courts, fully equipped fitness center, movie theater, and other recreation spaces. This includes yoga classes, group meditation, group fitness classes, use of gym equipment, basketball, ping-pong, karaoke, arts and crafts, game nights, movie nights, and more, including plenty of opportunities for quiet time and reflection.

The main items that you’ll want to consider when packing are clothing and shoes. We offer onsite laundry services, but we recommend bringing enough comfortable clothes for a week.

Due to the wide range of recreation activities that we hope you’ll consider participating in, such as fitness classes, yoga, and outdoor activities including sports, you may want to bring sturdy athletic shoes and workout wear.

Other items to consider packing include:

  • your health insurance cards and a form of identification, such as a driver’s license
  • current prescription medications
  • contact information for loved ones or others you’d like to be involved in your treatment (e.g., family members, a healthcare provider, a 12-step sponsor, etc.)

For your convenience, we provide all personal hygiene products. You are welcome to bring sealed personal hygiene products as long as alcohol is not among the ingredients.

All of our modern, comfortable rooms are semi-private, shared with one other client, and feature en suite bathrooms with all personal hygiene products provided. Rooms come with large windows looking out on our beautiful wooded campus and adjustable thermostats for your comfort.

If medical need necessitates, private rooms may be available.

Due to safety and other concerns, we do not allow clients to bring their dogs or other companion animals with them to BRC.

Options to consider for your companion animal’s care before leaving for treatment include asking family members or friends to watch them, arranging care from a professional pet-sitting service, or scheduling your pet’s stay at a boarding center.

Your care will be tailored to your individual needs and personal goals in recovery, but our residential programs do follow a similar structure.

A typical day often includes multiple group therapy sessions, with breaks between sessions. You will also have opportunities to meet with your primary clinician for individual therapy sessions or any other member of your care team. Three healthy, freshly prepared meals are served each day, with a longer break period following lunch. In the evening, a fun activity like karaoke or movie night follows dinner. The day ends with personal time.

Our onsite culinary team offers both hot and cold freshly prepared meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, along with several snack options. Each meal option is healthy, balanced, and nutritious to support recovery. We are also happy to accommodate special dietary needs, such as gluten-free, vegetarian, and any allergies.

You may be able to do some work while attending BRC, but this will need to be determined by a discussion with your care team. Your case manager can also help you fill out and submit paperwork to help you secure your job during treatment, such as Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) or short-term disability applications.

Yes, you can. We offer medically supervised detox and withdrawal management, often as a first step in treatment. Bedrock’s medical team provides around-the-clock care to help clients stay safe and as comfortable as possible during withdrawal, avoiding dangerous withdrawal symptoms and health complications. This may include by providing medications, tapering schedules, emotional support, and more.

Yes, you can receive treatment for bipolar disorder or another mental health disorder at Bedrock even if you don’t have an addiction. We are licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for primary mental health care, offering comprehensive treatment programs and evidence-based treatment options. BRC serves as an alternative to a stay in a psychiatric hospital, or as a “step down” following such care.

Our onsite psychiatrist, psychiatric nurses, and master’s-level clinicians can help ensure that you have the correct diagnosis, the right medication and dosage, and the tools you need for long-term recovery through behavioral therapy, life skills education, family psychoeducation, peer support, aftercare planning, and more.

Our multidisciplinary care team provides comprehensive treatment for a wide range of mental health disorders, including the following:

  • depression (major depressive disorder/clinical depression), bipolar disorder, and other mood disorders
  • anxiety disorders, including panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), phobias, and more
  • post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and other trauma-related disorders
  • schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders

We treat people with a primary diagnosis of these disorders as well as people with co-occurring substance use disorders.

Having the support of family members and other loved ones is often critical to a person’s long-term recovery, and we encourage family involvement at BRC in several ways. Our family psychoeducation therapy sessions, led by master’s-level clinicians, can help family members and significant others understand their loved one’s condition and what is required for recovery. We can also schedule supervised phone calls for added support and connect family members with peer support such as Al-Anon meetings.

Yes, we provide comprehensive treatment for people facing polysubstance use disorder. An initial evaluation and assessment will help determine all of your care needs, which may include medical detox, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), psychoeducation, individual and group therapy, peer recovery support, and more. Our medical and clinical professionals can also identify and address trauma or undiagnosed mental health disorders that may be contributing to your substance use.

Our beautiful woodlands campus just outside of Boston offers comfortable semi-private rooms with en suite bathrooms, a fully equipped fitness center, a movie theater with recliner chairs, a basketball court, a spacious outdoor patio and lounge area, and recreation rooms. Three nutritious, home-cooked meals and a variety of snacks are also provided daily.

Due to safety reasons and other considerations, including that we are unable to accommodate clients’ cars, we do not allow clients to drive themselves to Bedrock when beginning treatment. If you don’t have a way of getting here safely, our transportation team is available to come pick you up within a reasonable driving distance. We can also provide a ride following completion of your treatment program. We often provide rides to and from Boston Logan International Airport, for example.

At your intake assessment, you will meet members of your care team, receive an evaluation and biopsychosocial assessment, and share your goals in recovery so that a comprehensive, personalized treatment plan can be provided. Safety assessments may also be included.

Yes, our psychiatrist and psychiatric nurse practitioners identify and diagnose mental health disorders. Your initial evaluation and assessment, along with regular monitoring during treatment, can help determine undiagnosed or misdiagnosed mental health disorders.

We accept most private health insurance plans and TRICARE military insurance. Our fast, free verification of insurance benefits can help you know what to expect regarding use of your insurance at BRC. Call us today and ask for help with health insurance verification.

Yes, we take our clients’ privacy and confidentiality very seriously. We adhere to all local privacy laws and regulations and are HIPAA-compliant, meaning that we implement and follow the U.S. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act’s physical, network, and process security measures to protect our clients’ health information.
